"Things You Should Know About Hitler" (updated 14 May 2014)

"10 Things You Should Know About Hitler"

(Revision Notes: Part 2 of History 8 Final Exam)
Note:
"This is just a small portion of the research I've done on Hitler's family background during History class to prepare for the test on Friday :)"

1. Hitler is not a particularly common German surname. In fact, Hitler himself was originally called Schicklegruber. Some have speculated that he changed his name to hide his Jewish descent.
John Burton, O'Connor, Australia.

2. There was a Jewish-Austrian doctor named Eduard Bloc who didn't charge Hitler's family due to their economic hardship. Hitler had him protected and called him a "noble jew".

3. Hitler had four other siblings that died in childhood: Gustav (1885-1887), Ida (1886-1888), Otto (1887), and Edmund (1894-1900). His only surviving sibling is Paula (1896-1960). In addition to Paula, Hitler had one step-brother, Alois (b. 1882) and one step-sister, Angela (1883-1949), both from his father's previous marriage.

4. Paula had a daughter named Geli Raubal who was Hitler's half-niece. Geli shot herself with Hitler's gun on 18 September 1931.

5. Adolf Hitler's father, Alois Hitler (Schicklgruber), was allegedly half-jewish. Alois's mother worked for a Jew family and it was said that the Alois' father was the son of the Jew family.

6. Alois was a civil servant. This was a respectable job in Brannau. He was shocked and totally disapproving when the young Hitler told him of his desire to be an artist. Alois wanted Hitler to join the civil service.

7. Hitler’s mother - Klara Hitler - was the opposite of Alois - very caring and loving and she frequently took Hitler’s side when his father’s poor temper got the better of him. She doted on her son and for the rest of his life, Hitler carried a photo of his mother with him where ever he went.

8. His father - Alois - was fifty-one when Hitler was born. He was short-tempered, strict and brutal. It is known that he frequently hit the young Hitler.

9. Adolf's father died in 1903 after suffering a pleural hemorrhage. Adolf himself suffered from lung infections, and he quit school at the age of 16, partially the result of ill health and partially the result of poor school work.

10. It is alleged that Hitler had a son, Jean Marie Loret, with a Frenchwoman named Charlotte Lobjoie. His family's lawyer has suggested that, if their descent from Hitler could be proven, they may be able to claim royalties for Hitler's book, Mein Kampf.
